In summer 2024, Muffin went home.
Muffin, also known as not-Keks and fake Keks, is the wildest story of a cat joining Kotoprovod. One day we rescued a cat named Keks, neutered him, and placed him in foster care while we searched for a home. But in the middle of the night, Keks tore through the window screen and escaped.
Our whole team rushed to search for him: we covered the neighborhood with posters, checked every confusing little street, and after a couple of days we finally got the call we had been waiting for. A woman had found him, and from all the photos she sent us, it was our Keks. He was even already neutered, just like our missing Keks.
The found cat also had an injured paw — a torn wound from a clash with another cat or a dog. Keks was brought to our clinic, examined, checked for a microchip, and… there was no chip. This was a different cat! And he was not actually neutered; he had been born with cryptorchidism. One testicle had not descended properly and remained inside, while the other was small.
The cat with the wound stayed at the clinic for treatment; releasing him would have been too dangerous. We called him not-Keks. The real Keks turned up another day later, caught in the trap we had set for him. To avoid confusion, not-Keks was later renamed Muffin. By a twist of fate, the people in his new home had been dreaming of a ginger cat they would name Keks. So when he arrived home, our Muffin officially became Keks! Both ginger boys found their homes almost at the same time.
His paw healed successfully, and later Muffin had abdominal surgery under ultrasound guidance so he could be properly neutered. Muffin is a funny, bold little fool: very affectionate and endlessly loved at home. He has made friends with his cat sister and regularly sends us stories about his latest antics and adventures.
