Pumpkin is an incredibly affectionate and gentle cat. He loves being held, curling up on people, and kneading with his paws. He sleeps in bed with his humans, has impeccable litter box habits, and enjoys playing with toys.
Pumpkin is an adult cat, and life on the streets is especially hard for cats like him. We later learned that he had once been almost a house cat: he lived at a hotel, where people looked after him. Then the hotel closed, his caretakers disappeared, and Pumpkin was left all alone on the street.
One of our volunteers found him limping, with an injured paw and a torn lip. Despite everything, he came to her willingly and climbed into the carrier all by himself. From his very first days at Kotoprovod, Pumpkin won everyone’s hearts. A family almost immediately chose him as a companion for their cat—but the adoption could not go ahead after Pumpkin tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).
An FIV diagnosis does not prevent Pumpkin from living a long, happy life. He needs to live indoors, receive regular veterinary care, and be protected from infections and unnecessary stress (Cornell Feline Health Center). FIV is transmitted mainly through deep bite wounds between cats; it cannot infect humans or dogs (FelineVMA retrovirus guidelines). To avoid any risk to other cats, we are looking for a home where Pumpkin can be the only cat.
