Seva fell asleep forever in my arms at the clinic on March 27, 2025.
For a year and a half she was a happy house panther. For a year and a half we fought for her life every day. A year and a half instead of the couple of months the doctors had promised her.
This is her story: in June 2023, we picked up this cat by accident while trying to catch another injured cat. She looked very strange: she was drooling heavily and smelled awful. It was impossible to understand much more in the middle of the night with a black cat.
We rushed to the clinic. During the examination, the vet found a piece of foxtail grass stuck behind the base of her tongue. It had clearly been there for many weeks. All of her teeth had broken down and rotted; she could not eat, drink, or groom herself properly. All of her teeth had to be removed.
This text is written by Anya, and I was the one who took her in for rehabilitation, hoping to find her a home. A little Toothless dragon, Seva turned out to be very strong-willed, bold, but timid. She had no idea how to live in an apartment, but she learned the rules quickly. She became close friends with my dog, but bullied my cat badly. I hoped very much that a home would be found and that all of this was temporary.
Two months later, Seva suddenly got much worse. Her tests showed the very last stage of kidney disease. The weeks with foxtail grass stuck in her mouth had irreversibly damaged her kidneys. I decided that Seva was no longer looking for a home: she would stay with me for the rest of her life, and we would fight for every day of good-quality life she could have.
Those year and a half were difficult and heavy, but they were worth it. My dear girl, my little countess Seva, my Monomakh’s cap (for her love of sleeping on my head), my terrible stubborn girl. I miss you and remember you. And I always will.
