Sprat’s story began on October 14, 2023, while we were preparing for the Science and Cats festival. To raise funds for Kotoprovod, we organize popular science lectures and festivals, and that morning we were setting up the venue in the courtyard of our partners, Letters and Numbers.
First, another cat came into the courtyard in a terrible condition: he could barely stand, his eyes were unfocused, and he had great difficulty getting up and reacting to anything. We rushed him to a clinic.
Just two hours later, a second cat appeared in the very same spot. He was in exactly the same condition. Our volunteer picked him up and rushed him to the same clinic as quickly as possible. We named this second cat Sprat.
Neither cat showed signs of infection; their condition looked more like poisoning. We suspect rat poison.
The first cat did not survive after a day of supportive care. Sprat lived only one week longer. We hoped until the very end that he would pull through, but his body could not withstand it.
